The City of Bloomington Utilities Issues Sanitary Sewer Overflow Advisory

The City of Bloomington Utilities has issued a Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) advisory for the following area after an SSO was confirmed on Wednesday, October 4.

Crews ascertained the SSO was the result of a blockage in a sanitary sewer line.  The obstruction primarily consisted of grease build-up, which was cleared and normal flow in the line resumed.

The estimated flow from this SSO is still to be determined.

There were no signs of untreated sewage on the ground. However, residents in the aforementioned area are advised to take precautions should they come into contact with untreated sewage that may have accumulated as a result of this overflow.  Any individual who has come into direct contact with untreated sewage is advised to wash their hands and clothing thoroughly.

The City of Bloomington Utilities is committed to a more efficient and reliable wastewater collection and treatment system and reducing the number of sanitary sewer overflows is a major emphasis in that effort.

The City of Bloomington Utilities is also committed to transparency with respect to the citizens of this community. This includes issuing public advisories in the event a confirmed sanitary sewer overflow has occurred.
