The Clear Creek Trail will be closed June 27, 2024 at Gordon Pike for the construction of an access trail between Gordon Pike and the trail, in preparation for a new vehicle bridge that will connect Gordon and Fullerton Pikes. The closure is .57 miles south of Rockport Road and .56 miles north of West That Road.

The project is managed by the Monroe County Highway Department as Fullerton Pike Phase 3.

The project has been awarded to Milestone Contractors. The Monroe County Highway Department held a public meeting March 25, 2024 to discuss the schedule and the construction of the project moving forward. Construction began April 9, 2024 on the west end at Rockport Road.

The project consists of a 525' bridge and roadway connection with the installation of a roundabout at Bachelor Drive and Gordon Pike. Completion of the project is expected in August 2025; the Clear Creek Trail detour will be in place for at least one year. The detour will be paved and accessible, and will become permanent infrastructure and access points to the trail after the Fullerton Pike project is complete.

History

Clear Creek Trail was acquired in 1997 by 12 separate purchases with the City of Bloomington Utilities. A 'linear park', this trail offers an alternative means of transportation and represents a long-term commitment to connect public facilities by routes that do not require vehicles. Phase I of the Clear Creek Trail between Tapp Road and That Road was opened on May 23, 2001. Phase II from That Road to Church Lane opened on Oct. 30, 2003.

The 150' wrought-iron bridge was moved from its original home in Warren County where it spanned Big Pine Creek since 1887. The bridge was painstakingly restored, then placed over Clear Creek near the Church Lane trailhead on August 1, 2003.
