Community Invited to Council Discussion on Housing

The City of Bloomington Common Council invites all interested community members to attend the September Council Deliberation Session to participate in an open dialogue about housing options in Bloomington. This is a discussion session only—no decisions will be made during this session.

Facilitated conversations with Councilmembers, Planning staff, and Housing and Neighborhood Development staff will revolve around the individual experiences of participants, their housing needs and how their current housing is or is not meeting those needs.

Further conversation will explore local experiences related to housing types including short-term rentals (ex. Airbnb’s), accessory dwelling units (ADU’s), and the integration of various housing options into traditionally single-family home neighborhoods.

The purpose of this session is to share experiences and viewpoints with policy makers with the end goal of Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) changes that will benefit the Bloomington housing market by facilitating creation of attainable housing that meets the needs of our residents and hopeful residents. All experiences are valued as part of this conversation, across spectrums of tenant, landlord, or owner-occupant. Whether you have lived in Bloomington for 50 years or only moved here last week, your perspective can provide insight into this discussion.

The Council will hold this session on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at 6:30 pm in City Council Chambers (City Hall, 401 N. Morton Street).
