A water sample was taken to check for bacteria on 5/24/19. Results came back negative for coliform and results were communicated to customer. Their water is safe to drink. Michael explained to the customer the fishy smell and taste is a natural part of using lake water and the carbon filter he currently has as a part of his reverse osmosis filter is what would be used to lessen this experience. We discussed a certain percentage of the population is more sensitive than others and he must have a greater sensitivity.

Followed up with customer on 5/17/19. We went over his UReport to make sure I understood the water quality issue and we clarified the water both tastes and smells fishy. The smell was not in the initial web form.
Customer stated he's been in his current home since 2013 and notices the fishy water quality issue every time the weather starts getting warmer for the last 8/10 years no matter where he's lived in Bloomington.
The water quality issue has been so unappealing he decided to install a reverse osmosis filter through the sink in his current residence. Even with this filter, he is still experiencing the fishy smell and taste.
The customer wanted to know if we've recently started changing anything in our process at the plant and if he can know when they do in the future so he can have a heads up on knowing this process change to avoid drinking his water during this time.
I then connected with Monroe Water Treatment Plant (MWTP). The plant let me know they have not had any algae in the basins and have not made any process change related to this. They did communicate they stopped chlorinating in the basins a month and a half ago.
I called the customer and let them know what MWTP communicated.
I told the customer there was a main break in the area around the exact time they started experiencing their water quality issue. I offered to flush the hydrant nearest their home as an immediate action to see if this helped with the water smell or taste.
I mentioned during the flushing process sometimes customers may notice fluctuations in pressure and/or discoloration of their tap water during hydrant maintenance. I mentioned it is recommended that customers postpone washing clothes and limit use of hot water until the cold water clears. Upon this info and given our discussion that this is a recurring issue we decided to forgo the offer of flushing for now.
We concluded the call with a plan to reconnect next week to schedule a bacteria water sample.
