Parks & Playgrounds:

Other: How did this amount of yard waste get into our lovely lower Cascades park? This area was noticed Sat afternoon during our 1st Sat of the Month weed wrangle event at Lower Cascades hosted by City Parks and MC-IRIS. A number of volunteers and City Park staff have been meeting at lower Cascades for over a year with Thurs afternoon weed wrangles then more recently Sat has been added for two events in this park per week. This was the first time that we have discovered this area and I can’t understand how, when by whom and why this destroyed native habitat area had occurred and who may have first reported this form of vandalism. What can be determined and more importantly how and when can this debris be hauled away to hasten the recovery of this previously native wooded park area? I had issues trying to attach a photo or video but, I can share those or offer to help you onsite.

Thanks for the note. I visited the site yesterday after talking with Joanna Sparks to try to see the pile that is mentioned in this report. Golf course staff do from time to time clean up fallen tree limbs and debris and move this natural waste into the woods. The City is currently looking at an internal green waste yard solution. In the meantime, I have spoken with golf course staff about spreading out the impact of moving limbs and debris into the woods. Thank you -
