City Construction Projects

W 17th St & N College Ave, Bloomington, IN 47404, USA

Case Date:
4/19/2023

My guess is you are aware that: (1) Driving west on 17th there is a small no left turn sign. (2) Drivers (to be kind) apparently aren't seeing the sign (surely they aren't ignoring it). Anyway, it is causing some big backups at times. I was there twice today and both times someone waited to turn left onto College. Not sure it is solveable, but hopefully there is something.

Since cross traffic is not permitted on 17th Street between College and Walnut and east of Walnut, it seems the traffic light signaling through its regular cycle is needless and leading to long backups on Walnut. At least make it flashing yellow.

W TAPP RD

Noticed that City has blocked off the road through the medical center/COTA which was acting as an alternate route around the Tapp Road work. State is working on 37 exits for Fullerton Pike and Rockport Road and has them down to one lane. This is creating a very dangerous situation since Rockport is the official Tapp Road detour. Someone should look at this and open the road through the medical center or see if something else can be done before someone is killed.

i noticed a very dangerous situation that needs to be fixed. on the old part of west 3rd street that is still 2 lanes, beside the cresent donut shop, it is very narrow there, & i noticed that the edge of the street there is crumbling away. when it starts snowing in a month or 2, it will be even more dangerouse, because as the snow accumulates it can form a false shelf effect. in other words, the street there could look wider than it really is, so a driver could easily go over the edge & down into a little creek under there. please fix. thank you

Road construction project on South Rogers St. Particular address 2018 S. Rogers. My elderly aunt (85 yrs old) lives at the back of this driveway. For the second time this summer I have had to complain about her driveway being inaccessible. We can park on the street to visit, but because of her physical condition she cannot walk to the street to our cars. Last Wednesday concrete was poured, a family member talked to someone on the construction crew and was told it couldn't be driven on until Monday. This is Tuesday and the driveway is still inaccessable! How many days is a person expected to stay in their home because of this? I called the Public Works number earlier this summer, unfortunately I don't recall the date, but it was on a Friday and I asked to speak to the person in charge of this project, I was given Justin Wykoff's voice mail. He never returned my call. I called 339-1444 after normal work hours and they also tried to give me Justin's name but I said he never returned my call and it was urgent that we get this driveway accessible so she could leave her home. I was given the Contractor's phone number, I left a message for him, didn't receive a call back so I called him again around 8:30 that evening and he said he would get it fixed on Saturday. It was fixed by 10:30 Saturday morning. I never heard anything from Justin. I called Justin Wykoff again this afternoon and left a message, I have not received a call back. I went by there this evening at 5:30 and took pictures which I am attaching to show the current state of the driveway. We need to get her out of the house, she's elderly but that doesn't mean she should be trapped in her house. It should be a common courtesy if nothing else for Justin to return my call and at least tell me when we can get in her driveway. Would it be better if I just contact the newspaper next time and let them know that city employees and the contractors the city does business with does not care about our elderly citizens being stuck in their homes for more than 7 days because of this construction project? I'm sure there are other elderly people living in the midst of this construction but their homes may be closer to the street or they may not have someone to complain for them. I'm not sure what can be done to avoid this situation during the remainder of this construction, but I think every option should be considered beforehand for the elderly or handicapped citizens. I would like for Justin Wykoff to call me at the above number and explain to me what the delay is in gettin this driveway open and why he has not returned my calls. He could have at least followed up with me on the first complaint to make sure it was resolved.

Wet cement through entire lane with no covering or cones or signage on 10th east of bypass heading east

Hi, I ride my bike to work from Tamarron to North Walnut. Usually I take the bike route, including the Grimshaw Trail beside the train tracks, then cross the Bypass to Eastgate. Because of the construction on the Bypass, Eastgate is now closed, but there is no warning until you actually get there, which is very inconvenient. I also don't know how else I can get to my destination without either going all way down to 3rd, which would add about 10 minutes to my trip in each direction, or take my life into my hands by riding on 10th (I know, I know, the spandex brigade do this, but at 49 I've moved beyond the "live fast, die young, leave a good looking corpse" philosophy). What I would like to know, is how can I get to work safely if I can't go from the Grimshaw Trail over to Eastgate, and why do you not warn cyclists a little earlier (like say at Pete Ellis Drive and maybe Union Street on the other side) that Eastgate is closed so we don't waste even more time heading in that direction? Thanks, Gerry Matthews
