I was walking down the B-Line today at approximately 12:10 pm and found it concerning that a city of Bloomington employee driving a small green vehicle was "patrolling" the switchyard by driving to remote locations and idling while using his phone rather than driving the trails. Perhaps a better use of his time would be to salt or plow the b-line, because although the roads are fine, the trail is iced up and difficult to use. Please fix these problems and ensure that city workers are doing their job! -concerned citizen

I am a frequent user of the Jackson Creek trail and connector up to Olcott Park. The trail just east of the bridge between Sherwood Oaks and Olcott has had drainage problems from the start, but they have steadily become worse, and now this section of the trail is not only messy, flooded and muddy, but to the point of being dangerous. I attach a picture of the mud accumulation on the trail at the bottom of the hill that students returning home from JCMS often ride with their bicycles. This mud is very slick, and it surely just a matter of time before a serious accident happens. I have another picture showing the mud accumulation right by the bridge, which is also an issue. Some effort to control the drainage form the east would solve this problem. Thanks. Arthur

I often walk my dog on the trail. About every afternoon the Lighthouse Christian School has a large group of kids running on the trail. They seem to take over the trail. I was just wanting to know if every school in Bloomington did this who would the trail belong to? The public for walking, ect. or to the schools? Seems to me that if you let one school all of them could take advantage of this. I do not like to be walking and have to step aside for a group of jogging kids!

Good afternoon, I am a Bloomington local who has an issue with smokers on the B-line. The B-line is designed as a fitness path, in addition to being a transportation path. I run frequently on the B-line and my runs are consistently clouded with smokers on the B-line. Anyone who runs knows, especially when well into your run, each breath is crucial to keeping your pace and to keeping on track. When you are approaching a smoker on the B-line, there is nowhere to run to avoid them and you can’t simply hold your breath until you pass. A big part of Bloomington is a community that promotes healthy living. I think that the environment of the B-line should reflect that and be one of health and positivity, not drinking, smoking and disturbing others. This is my first attempt at reaching someone about an issue with the B-line, so if there is a more appropriate area or person I should contact, please let me know. I am not sure what the appropriate action could be, possibly signage that establishes the path as a no smoking area. I often feel compelled to say something to the smokers when I pass but I don’t have anything to back up my protestation. If I could point to a sign or if they obviously had seen 15 signs saying no smoking on the trail, they would know what they were doing was wrong. I look forward to hearing back from you on this issue. Sincerely, Lindsey LINDSEY HARMON Regulatory Affairs Specialist- Latin America Cook Inc. 750 Daniels Way P.O. During the past week, I've noticed that Clear Creek Trail and certain parts of the B-Line Trail (southernmost) have become exceptionally buggy. I've lived in Bloomington since 2009 and used both trails regularly since then -- and this is the time of year when the mosquitoes, gnats, and other critters tend to increase in population. But this year is the WORST I've seen it in my 5-plus years here. In those areas where it is possible, it seems some spraying/other mitigation is in order to keep the critters in check! It got so bad last week I literally cut one of my runs short (despite wearing hat, sunglasses, and Deep Woods Off), drove back to my neighborhood on the east side, and finished the run on the streets over there (where there is no trail, but far fewer bugs). In addition, I am aware that a good portion of the Clear Creek Trail runs adjacent to some sewer lines. But usually, only in 1-2 places do you ever get a whiff of it and usually it's very brief. No big deal. Well, this past week, much of the lower half of the trail (the area south of where the overflow water tends to flood the trail after heavy rainfall) has carried a very consistent and moderate "poo" smell. And I'm pretty sure it's not coming from the four-legged running companions who like to use the trail as well and do their natural business. I'm not sure if there is a way to mitigate the smell somehow or if the sewers are unusually backed up or what -- but the smell has become such in past week where it might deter some from using the trail (if the bugs don't chase them off first) unless something is either done or the smell subsides naturally. Again, I've lived in B-Town for 5-plus years and have never encountered the smell on the CCT being near this strong -- or nearly continuous along the southern half -- as it is now. Just thought I'd bring this to your attention; I know that in talking with other runners/walkers/joggers, they are having bug/smell problems as well. Thanks for your time and attention to this issue -- Bill H.
