Could the City start a street volunteer group that can do things like paint crosswalks and maybe even fill potholes in their neighborhood? Would love to just get paint and a brush and approval to make a few improvements instead of waiting.
The utilities Dept added a new electricity pole behind our property. I understand that these are necessary but the trucks dug deep ruts in our yard. The attached photo is an example of the damage. It does extend further. Also, a stake and line are placed in our property. Again, I understand that this may be necessary, but advanced notice should have been given, as we are in the process of placing a fence in that same spot. I look forward to hearing back, at least in regards to the yard damage. The property is at 700 w Cherokee Dr. And the empty lot to the side is my property as well. Thank you. Stephanie Johnson
Hello! There has been an RV parked in our neighborhood street for around a month, and does not have tags. Individuals come and go from it frequently, to the house it's parked in front of and to the RV. I am concerned about the safety it presents to people in our area. I moved into the edge of elm heights this past August. I grew up in Bloomington and never thought I’d be able to afford a home near Harmony, in this area, but the couple who sold our house wanted a family who would respect the integrity of the historic area and luckily, my parents invested in my moving here as well. I have two very young children and am a stay at home parent. I did not know when we bought our home that an unlicensed frat is behind us. When they party (which is fine-it is a college town) I don’t feel comfortable letting my children play in our backyard. It smells like beer, they and their guests yell over the din of their music and I don’t trust them not to toss beer cans in the yard (which they have). It saddens me that the current administration is not protecting families like mine from being priced out of beautiful neighborhoods. That all the old homes near me are rentals for students-not priced for anyone else mind you-and that changes to zoning may make this even more oppressive. Please do not allow single family zoning to change my hometown and now the hometown of my children. Let families like mine be able to live in real Bloomington neighborhoods and not pushed out to suburban dwellings and condos. We are the residents that stay and build this town and keep it going. The university students will come and go. I am a Bloomerang and maybe there would be more if others could afford to live in neighborhoods they grew up admiring.
Dear John, I'd like to draw your attention to something that's happening at Walnut Grove apartment complex south of town. Somebody has recently bought it, is raising the rents, and economically challenged people are having to move out with nowhere to go. I run a food pantry there once a month and have gotten to know many of the people who live there and they are angry and frightened. What's happening there may be legal, but is certainly unethical. I understand that you are interested in creating low income housing, but this is a situation where low income housing is being flipped for a profit and leaving many people literally out in the cold. This is a question/concern about the Cit of Bloomington Facilities on the corner of Henderson and Miller. I live many blocks north in the Bryan Park neighborhood. Every morning and throughout the day, I repeatedly hear a ringing sound that reminds me of a digital phone (perhaps a lower pitch of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHvalSaaCRM). I don't have direct evidence, but I suspect this sounds is coming from the Utilities Center on Miller street. Does this make sense? If so, is there anyway to reduce the volume and frequency. It’s a nuisance.
