Hello, I'm a second-year tenant of a house on S Woodlawn Ave. The walk home at night is very dangerous because there are no street lights once you get south of Atwater Ave. As a larger man, I luckily do not have to worry as much as about being abducted by any predators. However, I still worry about getting struck by a car because of the lack of visibility on the streets and sidewalks. We have guests that are women that fear coming to our house at night because of how dark the street gets and they could easily be abducted in the dark. My roommates and I often find ourselves having to walk guests to Atwater for them to feel safe. It is a public safety issue and I'm requesting that street lights are installed on Woodlawn Ave for a minimum of 5 blocks south of Atwater. Woodlawn is a highly trafficked area not only by cars, but pedestrians too. I'm a policy analysis major and would love to be involved in any research or implementation needed to solve this issue. Lights are really dim for E 3rd east of college mall. Hard to identify Lanes at night and next to impossible during rain. Scary particularly with no median for opposing traffic at high speed. Can City either increase brightness to lights, which also would be good for feeling safe walking, or at least add little reflectors to lane for safer driving like State did on 10th.

My husband and I were in Bloomington two weeks ago. We are from out of state. While driving the streets around the campus, we were shocked at how dark every street is. Especially now with the upperclass students moving off campus into apartments and houses this next school year, the city of Bloomington needs to take their safety into consideration.
