Consider installing "Wrong Way" signs for cyclists on Third Street. As a bus operator, I can't tell you how many near-collisions I've had with cyclists popping out of nowhere going the wrong way on Third at night. I work at IU at 201 N Indiana in the "International Programs" building. Cars go the wrong way ALL of the time & it's so dangerous. Using either images or words, I suggest 2 "Do not enter" signs on the back of the 2 stop signs on Indiana at 7th, a "Left only" (or 'not right') sign on 6th at Indiana, & "Do not enter" on the back of the stop signs on 6th at Indiana. I live on a narrow road that is circular. One way in; one way out. There are 10 homes on our road and 2 of the homes have small children. I like to be able to take my dogs for a walk on our road as well. Because of our wooded area, the heavy brush and the turns in the road, it is VERY difficult for a driver to see very far ahead of them or supposedly to drive more than 15 miles an hour safely. Many visitors and delivery/service people don't seem to be able to be cautious despite the conditions. At my own expense would like to post a sign that is 24" X 18" on or near a large tree that faces the entrance to my neighborhood. It doesn't appear that any one person owns the property that the tree is on. I wonder if I can legally do this or do I have to get permission from the street department? There is not a sidewalk and as I said, there road is barely passable for 2 vehicles. My dogs and I have had to run to find a safe place to be before cars come flying towards us or from behind. This intersection needs a left turn only lane for cars turning off of 10th St. North onto Range Road. Sometimes cars in the lane for going straight swerve into the right lane to get around cars waiting to turn left even though visibility for this is poor and could confuse drivers turning right onto 10th St. from Pete Ellis. Just park in the post office parking lot and observe this intersection around 5 - 6 pm on a weekday and you can see for yourself. A left turn lane would greatly reduce accidents at this intersection.
I think there is no street sign on 3rd St for Johnson Dr. Also, why are there "No Outlet" signs on Johnson & Kimble? Usually these mean the same as "Dead End" - that you can only come out the street you went in. This is not the case. I was heading west, going to Valhalla. I thought I was at Johnson Ave, but did not see a street sign, and the "No Outlet" sign made me think it was not Johnson. Soon came Kimble, so we turned in there and were surprised to see a "No Outlet" sign there, too.
I'm new to Bloomington, currently residing on S Park Ave, so I'm not sure if the following has already been reported. I often find it frustrating that there is not a 4-way stop on at the "intersection" of 2nd st and S Park Ave. This isn't a typical intersection as 2nd street dead-ends into S Park causing drivers to have to turn right or left to continue on 2nd, depending on their direction. I realize that 2nd street has more traffic than S Park however traffic often gets backed up when drivers don't know who has the right-away. I've witness several close calls. I'm just looking for some feedback to see if this has been investigated and/or if anything can be done to address it. Many thanks for your time and consideration!
Can a "No Left Turn" sign be placed at Union St when heading south at the 3rd street intersection? Drivers constantly try to turn left there, impeding traffic and causing dangerous situations. The heavy 3rd street traffic makes it near impossible to turn left (East). Individuals will wait 10-15 minutes to turn or eventually give up. Drivers can be seen pulling in front of other drivers attempting to make their way in. Thank you and have a great day.
To Whom it May Concern, I am an IU Student living in Jackson Heights. I choose to take the bus 2-3 times a day to get to my classes, in an effort to be environmentally conscious. The nearest bus stop is on 17th street past the gas station. There isn't any crosswalk/crosswalk lights on any side of the corner I have indicated. This puts myself, as well as any other pedestrian, at risk of being seriously injured. I've been in Bloomington since August and have, thankfully, avoided getting into any incident. However, I have just heard from my roommate, that she almost got hit by a car, as the driver wasn't paying attention and it's tricky for a pedestrian to decide when to cross when there aren't any indications to do so. I am really hoping a solution can be reached. I'd also appreciate any feedback on any way I can assist to help avoid a tragic situation. Thank you for your time, Yasmine El-Gohary
Lots of deer cross from behind the Hoosier Acres subdivision over Clarizz Blvd to the other side. We have noticed this for years. The students drive very fast, many times blowing through the stop sign at Buick Cadillac and Clarizz Blvd. A deer crossing sign would help people be more aware. Another deer was hit just a few days ago at this same location.
The intersection of 10th and N. Smith Road during peek traffic hours gets backed up for those coming from the south on N. Smith Road. Because of the long line of traffic, entrances to the Meadow Smith Apartments get blocked, and I'd imagine it makes things a bit more difficult for the gas station there as well. Has the city entertained the idea of making that a three way stop rather than only requiring traffic coming in from Smith Road to stop? The traffic levels seems to suggest a need for it. I could send in a photo next time I see a back up if you'd like.
