I earlier requested a visit to check the condition of the tree whose branches fell on the street and sidewalk on July 11 (case number 212545). I replied to an email from Haskell asking for our address but realized it's from [email protected]. In case my reply didn't reach him, I am reporting it again here with our address.

I bought a brand new washer and dryer from Lowe’s just a couple of months ago. My dryer started making a really loud noise yesterday and a red light came on. When I googled with the light it said exhaust./duct issue. I called Samsung to ask them to come and look at my dryer because it’s still under warranty and they asked me has anyone cleaned the dryer duct/ vent outback? I said that I had not I can’t even get to it. I don’t have a letter that tall and I don’t know what I’m doing, but I’m not sure if Maintenance had or not they said that they would not send anyone to fix the dryer until the duct was cleaned out. I contacted office management. Who then informed me that she tried to get the owner to have Maintenance to come fix it but he declined. I have a two year-old and a three year-old not only do I need a dryer, but there’s obviously an issue../fire hazard!

Sewer Problems (Sanitary Sewers)
1131 W Meadow CT
- Case Date:
- 7/22/2026
Crews working on gas line notified me this morning that M Street Fiber has run their line through my sewer and broken it and it is leaking. I was told by the Utilities department to contact Kyle Baugh to arrange repair but I have been unable to reach him or the main office by phone this morning. Per your voicemail instruction I am leaving this email and asking someone to contact me at your earliest convenience. The crews do not plan to fill the excavation back in until repair is made. Thank you.
City Performance
Building Trades Park

The daily situation in the park is so bad now that people are even complaining about it on reddit - https://reddit.com/r/bloomington/comments/1v34gaw/building_trades_park/
Every single day, all day, there is a group of men from outside the neighborhood that set up and drink, gamble, smoke weed, sell drugs, fight and scream. Every. Single. Day.
The "security patrols" are pathetic, they never confront these people. Cops never patrol, no city employees are ever present in this park. There is a playground where people used to take their kids, but no sane parent would allow their children in the park when these men are present.
The neighborhood is begging you to do something before the violence escalates.

On the morning of July 11, I found a large branch that had fallen into the street, blocking about half of the roadway. A few hours later, another branch from the same tree fell onto the sidewalk. Both branches were removed promptly after I reported the issues, and I appreciate the quick response.
However, I am concerned about the health of the tree, as falling branches could pose a safety risk to pedestrians or passing vehicles. Would you please arrange for someone to evaluate the tree's condition? Thank you!

Wasn't sure how to categorize this issue of cigarette litter. north sidewalk on Kirkwood, outside of Crazy Horse and Alley Bar. Patrons of these two businesses frequently litter their cigarettes onto the sidewalk, into the planter, into the drain, into the metal cage surrounding the pipes--without extinguishing them. It's pretty gross and also a fire hazard. And I'm guessing when the cigarettes go into that drain, they end up in Clear Creek, which isn't great for the environment (not that there aren't other issues affecting Clear Creek's cleanliness, but still).
I've noticed it for years, but I guess I only cared enough to write a UReport now. Because earlier this week I was walking my dog on that sidewalk, and someone flicked their cigarette onto the ground near me, and my dog must have thought it was a treat or a scrap of food because she tried to gobble it up. And I think it burnt her tongue a little because she was whining for the rest of the day.
Maybe we could get Crazy Horse and Alley Bar to set up cigarette receptacles so their patrons have a designated place to safely dispose of cigarettes?
Bus Services (Bloomington Transit)
Sare Rd & Mill Stone Ct

Hello! We would love to start using the number 5 bus more often, but the closest bus stop feels a bit dangerous. It only has a sign; no concrete pad or bus stop bench area. Being on the south side of the street with no sidewalk area by it, cars go incredibly fast by us while we are waiting. This photo from today shows that it isn’t well kept; not mowed often and in the winter, often is piled up with snow. We would like to request improvements to this bus stop so we (and others) can use it more regularly and feel safer. Thank you.

220 W 14th St. This is a repeat of #212155. I need you to understand the methodology behind this photograph. I held my phone pointing directly ahead of me, with both of my feet squarely on the sidewalk (at the edge of the sidewalk). My phone was directly in front of my face. The branch directly in the center of the photo is exactly where my eyes would be if i had continued to walk forwards. Practically, this is a genuine problem because I really do walk along the edge of the sidewalk so that i can walk 2- or 3-abreast with my family. It's a safety problem because if I do not see the branch then it will hit my eye, as has already happened at this location! It's an inconvenience because it is a point where the sidewalk narrows from 5ft to effectively 4ft. Pedestrians are forced to reconfigure their groups at these narrowings. It costs us time and energy and makes conversing difficult. I'm not sure what enforcement authority you're acting under but it's a legal problem as well, for example BMC 12.24.040 requires a clear distance of 8ft above sidewalks. FWIW, I'm asking for 6ft. The transportation plan also weighs in on this, Table 5 Pedestrian Zone Design Parameters "Clear space for all pedestrian travel, should be clear of any and all fixed obstacles." I didn't think it was necessary to be so explicit but they were -- "any and all" definitely includes branches that extend 6 inches into your eye sockets. The specific undesirability of having fixed obstacles extending over the sidewalk exactly at eye height *for any distance* has been explicitly acknowledged and i can't believe i'm trying to point this out today. Anyways i really do appreciate that this has seen already more enforcement action than the whole city put together before about 2022 but if this is what compliance looks like then we have a problem.
