Ref: Saturday Farmer's Market I implore the mayor of Bloomington to not resort to the extreme action of closing the Saturday Farmer's Market as a solution to calming the tensions around a particular market stand at the farmer's market. Bloomington's farmers market is at its peak time of year late July/early August. I have arranged for out of town company to be in Bloomington this weekend in large part because the market yields such a wonderful market Saturday dinner. I myself am making a trip into town from DC for the weekend to host my out of town guests. The city MUST find a less destructive way of calming the tensions than that of closing the market. Sincerely, Beth Plale A citizen of Bloomington with residence on Southeast side of town

Farmers Market Shutdown, I have no idea what threats or racial incivility the Mayor knows exist in the Bloomington farmers market that threaten the community. I don’t know what “the” white supremacists said, did or threatened to do in Bloomington. Did some nut case threaten to drive a truckload of nitrates into the courthouse like a disgruntled landowner did up in Lafayette years ago. If so, arrest them. Lead, don’t cower. If the offense isn’t prosecutable stay calm and carry on with business. Open the Market. Sell veggies...not manure.

I am very concerned with the Mayor's comments about the Farmer's Market. You cannot have it both ways, you don't get to condemn white nationalists in one sentence and then welcome all in the next. I would like to see some clarification on what he meant by this statement. “As Mayor, I have spoken for our city to condemn white nationalism and white supremacists as a scourge on our country and our community, and to promise that we will do all we can to overcome their legacies and any current efforts,” said Bloomington Mayor John Hamilton. “We also want to assure that everyone knows that all are welcome in our inclusive Bloomington, and that our Farmers’ Market will embody those values of inclusion and welcoming, as well as be a safe space for all to gather, as our community expects every Saturday.” This reads like White Nationalists are welcome. Hello City of Bloomington - I want to suggest that you learn about and advocate for the City to join the Government Alliance on Race and Equity (GARE) - https://www.racialequityalliance.org. It's a national network geared to local and regional government agencies. We know white supremacy is a systemic problem, not unique to B'town. The City should work in coalition and learn from other govt. entities committed to progressive social change. Mayor Hamilton and other City leaders know about GARE but have never joined. We're not a progressive city. BUT we could make a serious move towards being one if we take bold, strategic action. Joining GARE is a start. Thanks for taking seriously this suggestion. Sincerely, Trish Kerle'

You folks are disgusting for promoting White Supremacy in the name of the 1st amendment and arresting people who actually are using the 1st amendment for a good reason. I hope you get all the damnation you deserve.

Bloomington Parks Department violated Indiana University professor Cara Caddoo's right to free speech and protected white supremacists instead.

Disappointed in this city for keeping Anthony's Pets open. This city and the people that occupy it are more progressive than this. Do better.
