In 2018, the Bloomington Housing Authority announced its plans to pursue funding to fast-track improvements of the city’s 312 public housing units. In February of 2019, the BHA presented its plan for the rollout of those improvements to its board. Through the federal department of Housing and Urban Development’s Rental Assistance Demonstration Program, or RAD, the BHA will hope to secure financing to reduce the timetable for rehabbing units from 20 years to just five.

Mayor John Hamilton led a conversation about the potential this financing holds for Bloomington residents.
