Press Release: City of Bloomington Utilities Continues Water Main Repair on 17th and College

Bloomington, Ind. – The City of Bloomington Utilities is repairing a leak in the drinking water transmission pipe under North College Avenue at the West 17th Street intersection. Crews first opened the road on the evening of Wednesday, June 26 in the anticipation of completing a routine repair before the morning rush hour on Thursday, but various unexpected complications have delayed completion of the repair. Staff from both the Transmission & Distribution and Engineering divisions have been on site to adjust the original repair plan to account for the older infrastructure and the layers of development in the area.

Traffic signage is displayed at the repair site.  Motorists are advised to reduce their speed when traveling near the work zone or to find an alternate route. Local businesses are still open during their regular business hours and are not expected to lose water service, although some customers did lose water unexpectedly for a short time on Thursday. Customers may notice fluctuations in pressure and/or discoloration of their tap water during this maintenance. If water appears discolored, customers are advised to run their cold water tap until it clears. It is recommended that customers postpone washing clothes and limit use of hot water until the cold water clears.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact the City of Bloomington Utilities at 812-339-1444.
