Bloomington, IN - The City of Bloomington announces the donation of a Mark Wallis sculpture by Cem and Vicki Basman and Emma Loveland to be placed along the B-Line Trail in memory of local musician and Bloomington resident Evan Farrell.

Evan Farrell moved to Bloomington in 1995 to major in guitar at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music. He became active in the local music and arts scene, joining several local musical groups. Farrell was in Berkeley, California on a reunion tour with the San Francisco-based band Japonize Elephants when he died in an apartment fire. His wife, Jill Nielsen-Farrell, two sons, Walker and Avery Nilan, and father, Ken Farrell, are Bloomington residents.

Dancing Spirit, an abstract kinetic metal sculpture was created by Mark Wallis, a local artist and nationally known sculptor. Wallis maintains a studio in Spencer where he works in both wood and steel creating sculptures and furniture for public and private collections around the country.

The Evan Farrell memorial sculpture will be installed along the B-Line Trail behind the Showers Complex between 8th and Rogers Streets. It will be the first artwork visitors see as they enter the trail from the north. An event to commemorate the donation and in celebration of Farrell's life and music will be held on Friday, July 24, 2009 at 6 p.m. at the site. The public is invited to attend.
