October Exhibit to feature work from Local Clay Potters' Guild

Bloomington, IN - BEAD will showcase work crafted by 22 members of the Local Clay Potters' Guild in "Through Our Hands", which is both an art exhibit and educational display. Pieces in the exhibit range from delicate, finely fashioned porcelain to unconventional sculptural work with complex textures and a variety of glazes. An adjacent display case will showcase materials used by ceramic artists and, with the help of the Indiana Geological Survey, incorporate rock and mineral samples, posters, books, and pottery to study the science of an art which dates back 12,000 years.

Local Clay Potters' Guild mission is to be "a cooperative organization that promotes individual artistic growth and promotes the artistic standing of Local Clay as a whole and contributes to the growth of interest in ceramic arts in Indiana." As an organization, they show their work in various art and studio galleries, museum exhibits, fairs, and festivals as well as an Annual Holiday Pottery Show at St. Mark's. The Guild also participates in organizing and donating soup bowls for the annual Soup Bowl Benefit for Hoosier Hills Food Bank. Additional information on the Local Clay Potter's Guild, including a list of members can be found at http://localclay.net/.

The exhibit will run October 6 - 30 in the Atrium of City Hall at 401 North Morton Street. The exhibition hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm on Monday through Friday, as well as additional evening and weekend hours when City Hall is open for meetings.

The City of Bloomington is committed to providing opportunities for Bloomington and area artists to exhibit artwork in the City Hall Atrium.
