BAC Announces October 2010 Arts Projects Grant Recipients

Bloomington Arts Commission Announces Fall 2010 Arts Project Grant Program Recipients:

The City of Bloomington Arts Commission is pleased to announce its Fall 2010 grant recipients. 17 organizations in the Bloomington community submitted grant applications for specific programs and were judged on four categories of criteria: artistic quality, community impact, organizational capacity and project history.

The following eight organizations rated the highest in the review areas:

Bloomington Playwrights Project, $670.52 for their "Local Student Reading Series" which will showcase new, excellent works produced by young, local writers.

Cardinal Stage Company, $707.48 for their "Shakespeare in Performance Project" which will include a production of Romeo and Juliet and Shakespeare in Performance workshops.

Bloomington Chamber Singers, $636.90 for their "Messiah Sings" concert.

Bloomington Early Music Festival, $702.44 for "The Bloomington Bach Cantata Project" in which monthly performances of JS Bach cantatas are presented in collaboration with Bloomington area musicians.

Boys & Girls Club of Bloomington, $387.00 for their "Youth Digital Photography Project" that will provide Bloomington's youth the opportunity to develop the skill of and explore digital photography.

Bloomington Symphony Orchestra, $641.95 for their Spring 2011 Concert "Violapalooza!" which will feature a collaboration with members of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and celebrate the power of the viola.

Bloomington Downtown Gallery Walk Group, $653.71 for "Gallery Works" which will add educational components to exhibits presented during Gallery Walks.

Southern Indiana Wind Ensemble, $600.00 for their free Spring 2011 concert.

The next cycle of applications for Arts Project Grants will be due April 1, 2011. Grants of up to $1,000 are available to nonprofit organizations participating in arts activities that align with current areas of focus of the Arts Commission: to cultivate a community in which residents appreciate the value of personal and collective artistic activity; to encourage collaboration in and diversification of artistic activities that include participants from across the community; to enhance and support a high level of artistry; and to support the economic vitality and interests of local artists and arts organizations.
