Bloomington, IN - The City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department is removing the playground at [The Waldron, Hill, and Buskirk Park|292] (formerly known as Third Street Park) to prepare for the installation of a new playground.

The Parks and Recreation Department, in partnership with The Bloomington Project School, was selected last month by Indiana University Health and non-profit KaBOOM! to participate in a community-build playground project. The playground at The Waldron, Hill, and Buskirk Park was selected for the project.

In preparation for Build Day, scheduled for Friday, May 20, the current playground equipment at the park will be completely removed. As soon as weather permits, crews will begin pouring concrete curbs that will encircle the new playground to help keep the new playground surfacing in place.

The playground will be constructed following the KaBOOM! community-build model - much like an old-fashioned barn raising - that is designed to both build a playground and strengthen the community. The new playground was designed with input from students at The Project School and community members during Design Day on March 24.

Numerous community volunteers are needed to take part in Build Day. Volunteers will assist in every facet of the playground building project, from setting posts that will support the new play structure to spreading mulch, and helping students from The Project School build compost bins and draw hopscotch games on the sidewalks.
