BEAD to Exhibit the Boys and Girls Clubs' "Cardboard City" Installation

BLOOMINGTON, IN - From Sept. 12 to 21 the City of Bloomington Entertainment and Arts District (BEAD) will showcase the exhibit "Cardboard City," created by the Boys and Girls Clubs of Bloomington, in the Showers Atrium of City Hall.

"Cardboard City" is a product of the Lincoln Street Club's visual arts program. It is a collaborative art installation created by members 6 to 14 years old. Members worked together all summer to create a large painted city structure made entirely of recycled cardboard.

A reception for the exhibit will be held Friday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Atrium at City Hall. The reception will include a tour of the City, a cardboard costume contest and cardboard-themed snacks. Exhibit hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, as well as additional evening and weekend hours when City Hall is open for meetings.

This project is another effort under the City's strategy to leverage and expand the economic development potential of the arts in Bloomington. According to a 2012 Americans for the Arts study, the local nonprofit arts sector contributes $72.3 million to the economy, including 3,430 jobs.
