Mayor announces grants for Martin Luther King, Jr. service projects, urges residents to honor Dr. King through volunteerism

Bloomington, Ind. -
Mayor Mark Kruzan announced today that the City of Bloomington's Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission has awarded grants totaling $30,795 to local organizations for "A Day On! Not A Day Off" volunteer service projects on the King holiday. Mayor Kruzan urges citizens to honor Dr. King by participating in one of the day's many community-centered activities.

"Martin Luther King, Jr., Day presents an excellent opportunity for us to enhance our community through collaboration," Kruzan said. "We are pleased to announce our grant recipients for the 2013 King holiday, 'A Day ON! Not A Day Off.'

The Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County and Service for Peace provided the City grants of $12,000 and $18,000, respectively. All of the funds will be directed to local groups to help them acquire materials and supplies volunteers will use to during the 2013 day of service.

The groups receiving funds and the amounts are included in the table below. Additional volunteer service projects that did not request project funding are also taking place.
