BLOOMINGTON, IN -- The City of Bloomington Arts Commission will hold a workshop for potential applicants to its April 2013 Arts Project Grant Awards from 4 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20 in the Hooker Conference Room at City Hall, 401 N. Morton St. Attendees are encouraged to bring their applications in progress for review by Commission members. The drop-in workshop will be conducted on a first come, first served basis. Current guidelines and application can be found on the Commission's webpage at www.bloomington.in.gov/bac.

The Arts Project Grant Program is another effort under the City's strategy to leverage and expand the economic development potential of the arts in Bloomington. In 2012, 23 arts projects were supported through the Arts Project Grant Program. This workshop is a reflection of the Arts Commission's current focus: cultivating a community in which residents appreciate the value of personal and collaborative artistic activity; encouraging diversification of artistic activities and inclusion of participants from across the community; enhancing and supporting a high level of artistry; and supporting the economic vitality and interests of local artists and arts organizations.

According to the 2012 Americans for the Arts study, Bloomington's nonprofit arts sector contributes $72.3 million to the local economy annually through direct spending by arts organizations and their audiences. For more information on the study visit www.bloomington.in.gov/arts.
