City seeks artists for downtown arts projects
Bloomington, Ind. - The City of Bloomington Arts Commission is issuing a Call to Artists for two separate commission projects, one at the Downtown Transit Center, currently under construction at the intersection of Walnut and Third Streets, and the other as part of the South Walnut Streetscape project.
The Arts Commission will work with Bloomington Transit on the Downtown Transit Center project. Bloomington Transit is investing approximately $104,000 toward public art at the new facility, with project administration provided by the Arts Commission. Available opportunities within this project include: custom-fabricated pedestrian benches and bicycle racks; Bloomington Transit logo artwork; and a transit mural. Full project descriptions and artist selection criteria are available at [www.bloomington.in.gov/arts|www.bloomington.in.gov/arts]. The deadline for applications is April 29.
Additionally, a Call to Artists for the South Walnut Streetscape gateway project will be released on April 1. The project will be funded through the City's Percentage for the Arts program. Information about specific project requirements and submission deadlines will be made available at [www.bloomington.in.gov/arts|www.bloomington.in.gov/arts].
The City of Bloomington, the Arts Commission and Bloomington Transit recognize that the visual quality of public space has a profound impact on the community at large. Appealing design and artwork can improve the appearance and safety of facilities and space and make the public feel welcome - all of which contribute to creating a more livable community.
