City's CFRD Joins The Comedy Attic to Benefit Foster Home Children

Bloomington, Ind. -  Comedian Tiffany Haddish will perform August 24-26 at The Comedy Attic to benefit local foster home children with a suitcase and luggage collection drive organized by the City’s Community and Family Resources department.  Attendees to Haddish’s three performances are asked to bring new or gently used suitcases to the performances to be donated to The Villages, Indiana’s largest not-for-profit child and family services agency.

Serving over 3,000 children and their families, The Villages champions every child’s right to a safe, permanent and nurturing home.

Known for her role in the box office hit “Girls Trip,” Haddish was nine years old when her mother suffered brain damage as a result of a car accident. Two years later, Haddish and her siblings were split up and placed into foster homes. Growing up as a foster child, she recalls the empty feeling of having her belongings carried out in trash bags as she moved from home to home. Haddish’s experiences inspired her efforts to help prevent similar feelings in foster children with this drive that will provide suitcases and duffel bags for children living in foster care so they will never know the indignity of having their possessions stuffed into a trash bag when they are relocated.

“Every child that is removed from their parents deserves to have a suitcase and a safe place to lay their head,” Haddish says. “I want to help with the suitcase part.”

Haddish will perform at the Comedy Attic on August 24 at 8 p.m., August 25 at 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. and August 26 at 8:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Tickets for all performances are available at www.comedyattic.com. Attendees who contribute suitcases and duffel bags will have the opportunity to meet Tiffany Haddish at an exclusive “Meet-and-Greet” for helping to make her vision a reality.

If you are unable to attend the performance but would like to donate a suitcase or duffel bag, contact Beverly Calender-Anderson at cfrd@bloomington.in.gov or 812-349-3560.
