Musical Acts Invited to Apply for Parks and Recreation's 2018 Summer Concert Series

The City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department is seeking musicians and bands to apply to participate in the 2018 Performing Arts Series, which takes place May through August in City parks throughout Bloomington.

Performers are selected based on type and quality of performance, availability, past performance record, and cost.

Those interested in applying to perform next summer must submit an artist application online. Applicants must include in the application links to online music or mp3s, with at least three examples of original music and recent publicity that has been printed for the individual or group. Applications and a $10 application fee must be received by the Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department no later than Dec. 8 at 5 p.m. to receive full consideration. Applications will be accepted until all performance dates are filled. Booking takes place in January through March 2018.

Bloomington Parks and Recreation has a long history of providing free music and theatrical performances in city parks, and of showcasing local musical talent. Not only does the summer Performing Arts Series provide several delightful venues for outdoor performances, but also promotes music as a way for local residents to experience different musical cultures, and as a catalyst that brings neighborhoods together.

The 2018 schedule of performances includes:

  • Peoples Park Tuesday Concerts, May through August from 4:30-6 p.m. at Peoples Park
  • Music on the Monroe County Courthouse lawn in conjunction with the Strawberry Shortcake Festival. The performance is from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. on Thursday, May 3.
  • Friday night concerts at the Waldron, Hill and Buskirk Park in June from 6:30-9 p.m.
  • Sunday concert series at Bryan Park, July and August from 5:30-8:30 p.m.
  • Bloomington Community Farmers' Market performances, Saturdays and Tuesdays during the Market season.
