City of Bloomington Utilities Issues Sanitary Sewer Overflow Advisory

Bloomington, Ind. — The City of Bloomington Utilities has issued a Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) advisory for the following areas after an SSO was confirmed today, Monday, December 10:

  • 500-600 blocks West Skyline Drive

  • 500 block West Dogwood Lane

The SSO was reported at approximately 3:30 p.m. today, December 10, and the flow ceased at approximately 4:30 p.m. today.

The clean-up has been completed and the process is underway to determine the amount of flow generated by this sanitary sewer overflow.

Crews believe the SSO was likely caused by the presence of tree roots in a sanitary sewer line. Plans are to televise the line and remove the roots with a root cutter.

Individuals in the aforementioned areas are advised to take precautions when coming into contact with untreated sewage that may have accumulated as a result of this overflow. Any individual who has come into direct contact with untreated sewage is advised to wash their hands and clothing thoroughly.
