City Seeks Public Input in Trades District Garage Preliminary Design Process

Bloomington, Ind. - Community members are invited to share feedback about the new parking garage planned for Bloomington’s Trades District at an open house on Thursday, April 4 from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. in the atrium at City Hall (401 N. Morton St.).  

During the forum, City staff and representatives from CSO Architects and construction manager Garmong Construction Services will be stationed to provide an overview of the project. Those attending can learn about and weigh in on relevant considerations, such as site options and site context, architectural context, sustainability and public art. Public input gathered at Thursday’s event will contribute to preliminary design concepts for the structure.  

The garage to serve the City’s new employment district just north of downtown will accommodate roughly 300 vehicles. The City has committed to attaining Parksmart certification for the garage, which will mean including such environmentally sustainable features as electric vehicle charging stations, bike lockers, solar generation and the potential for adaptive reuse of the ground floor.  

“Along with input from adjacent businesses, neighbors, and other community stakeholders, we welcome and value the input of the community at large as we develop this important piece of infrastructure in our exciting new employment hub,” said Mayor John Hamilton.
