Free Fares and Rear-Door Boarding Begins Tuesday, March 24

Bloomington, Ind. - Bloomington Transit (BT) will begin providing free fares on all fixed-route and BT Access service buses Tuesday, March 24.  Passengers on fixed-route buses will be required to board through the rear doors. These measures are being implemented to help provide greater separation between BT drivers and customers in an effort to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.  Persons in wheelchairs and using other mobility devices may continue to board through the front door. The fare-free service and rear-door boarding will continue until further notice.

Additional precautions include disinfecting fixed route and BT Access vehicles on a nightly basis using special equipment, and the closure of the Downtown Transit Center to the public.  Portable restrooms will be provided at the Downtown Transit Center starting tomorrow.

BT will continue operating a spring break schedule this week. BT will reevaluate service plans at the end of this week and will make an announcement regarding service plans for the period beyond March 29.

Bloomington Transit is the Public Transportation Corporation for the City of Bloomington. A fixed-route service is provided on nine routes serving most areas of the City.  Routes and schedules are available here.  Bloomington Transit also offers BT Access, a specialized service available to persons with disabilities who are unable to use regular fixed-route services.  Persons seeking more information on Bloomington Transit services including BT Access can call 336-RIDE (7433).
