City Announces Timeline for Water Shutoff in City Parks

The Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department announced the timeline for staff to complete the annual winterization process for restrooms, drinking fountains, and water spigots in city parks.

Water service must be shut off each fall, prior to the onset of freezing temperatures, to keep ice from damaging or breaking water supply lines and fixtures.

Most drinking fountains in city parks were not turned on in 2020, due to concerns related to spreading coronavirus through public use of the fountains.

Restrooms in Building Trades Park and Butler Park, along with outdoor spigots and irrigation, and the decorative fountain in The Waldron, Hill and Buskirk Park, were closed the week of Oct. 12.

This week, Oct. 19-23, the restrooms at the Lower Cascades ballfields will be closed for the season, and the fountain and irrigation system at Miller-Showers Park will be winterized.

Oct. 26-30

Nov. 2-6
Restrooms, spigots, and irrigation systems shut down in the following parks: Upper Cascades Park and the Lion's Den Shelter, Twin Lakes Sports Park, Ferguson Dog Park, Lower Cascades Park, Bryan Park, and Winslow Woods Park

Nov. 9-13
Restrooms, spigots, and irrigation systems shut down in the following parks: RCA Community Park, Olcott Park, and Switchyard Park/
