City Dedicates North Star/Hoosier Line Art Installations at Switchyard Park

WHAT:  The City of Bloomington invites community members to a celebration of the completion of the North Star/Hoosier Line art installations at Switchyard Park.

WHO:  Mayor John Hamilton and Bryony Gomez-Palacio, Chair, Bloomington Arts Commission, will offer remarks.

WHEN:  Friday, November 19, at 5 p.m.

WHERE: Community Foundation Switchyard Plaza Spray Pad building, beside the B-Line Trail.  Parking is available in the lot adjacent to the Switchyard Pavilion, at 1601 South Rogers Street.

BACKGROUND:  Per its commitment to the One Percent for the Arts ordinance, the City commissioned a sculptural installation as part of its plans for the creation of Switchyard Park. The winning installation North Star/Hoosier Line was designed and fabricated by the artistic team of Tom Fansler and Rachel Kavathe of TIII Environments. This two-part artwork, installed near the park’s spray pad, is a colorful, interactive artwork for all ages that honors the rich history of the site, a former railroad switchyard, and commemorates regional community members who played a role in the Underground Railroad.
