Nonprofit Alliance Announces Nonprofit Board Training in March and April

he Nonprofit Alliance of Monroe County, in coordination with Nonprofit Central at the Monroe County Public Library, will offer a free, four-session training course for nonprofit board members on March 19, March 28, April 2, and April 9, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. This course is designed to teach the fundamentals of effective nonprofit board governance and is aimed at individuals with a variety of connections to nonprofit boards.

The course is divided into four, two-hour sessions covering the following topics:

  • March 19: Mission, Vision, and Values / Nonprofit Board Recruitment
  • March 28: Board Orientation / Avoiding Negative Board Dynamics
  • April 2: Strategies to Achieve a Better Board / Staff-Board Dynamics
  • April 9: Strategic Planning / Fundraising and Finances

The training is intended for new and current board members, board members between terms, board members with planning or leadership roles, and nonprofit staff who work with their boards. The training will be led by Michael Shermis, Special Projects Coordinator in the Community and Family Resources Department at the City of Bloomington. Sessions will be held at the Monroe County Public Library. Participation is limited to 36 nonprofit representatives over the age of 18, who must register in advance.

The Nonprofit Alliance of Monroe County is a collaboration between the City of Bloomington, the Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County, the Monroe County Public Library, and United Way of South Central Indiana. Its mission is to strengthen the local nonprofit sector through communication, collaboration, and professional development.
