Nominations Open for 2026 Human Rights Award

The Bloomington/Monroe County Human Rights Commission (BMCHRC) seeks nominations for the 2026 Human Rights Award, which honors an individual or organization for their service improving civil rights in our community. The awards have recognized numerous recipients since 1997.

Nominations are accepted at bton.in/HRA with a submission deadline of May 1, 2026, at 5 p.m. Eligible nominees include individuals and organizations based in Bloomington or unincorporated areas of Monroe County.

The Commission encourages nominations of individuals and organizations whose work helps residents access housing, employment, public spaces, or services or brings people together in ways that build understanding and strengthen connections across the community. Nominations may be based on a legacy of work supporting human rights or on specific projects undertaken in 2025.

The Bloomington/Monroe County Human Rights Commission enforces the local Human Rights Ordinance and provides education to ensure residents understand their rights and responsibilities under the law.
