City of Bloomington Announces Temporary Through-Traffic Closure on Rogers Street Between 2nd and 3rd

The City of Bloomington will temporarily close Rogers Street between 2nd Street and 3rd Street from Monday, June 15, through Friday, June 26 as part of the Patterson/Grimes/Rogers resurfacing project. Local access for residents and businesses will be maintained—through traffic should follow posted signage.

The City’s contractor requested the closure to complete critical work on Rogers Street before the nearby Bloomington Convention Center expansion work begins. City Engineering reviewed and supports the request.

This closure is separate from the Rogers Street closure near Switchyard Park, which is scheduled to reopen today, June 10, with a new raised pedestrian crossing. Drivers should slow down and adjust to the new crossing, which is designed to improve pedestrian safety near the park.

Bloomington Convention Center expansion work will require the temporary closure of South College Avenue between 3rd Street and Smith Avenue beginning June 30. Because Rogers Street will serve as a key detour route during that closure, completing this work first will support more reliable traffic flow through the area. Access to Convention Center parking will continue from Madison Street, Smith Avenue, and South College Avenue.

Residents, businesses, and visitors should plan for detours, delays, and changing traffic patterns in the area. Drivers are encouraged to slow down, follow posted signage, and use caution when traveling near construction zones.

The City will continue to provide updates as needed.
