Exhibit, Abstract Thought, to open in City Hall Atrium in August

Bloomington, IN - The City of Bloomington and BEAD will showcase the exhibit, Abstract Thought, which features work created by James Campbell in the City Hall Atrium from Friday, August 7 to Friday, August 28, 2009. The Atrium is free and open to the public during regular business hours.

Originally from Oregon, James Campbell has lived in Bloomington since 1975. Before coming to Bloomington, he attended art school at Montserrat School of Visual Art in Massachusetts. Since his schooling he has worked in graphic design, painting, printmaking and sculpture.

Abstract Thought will feature a selection of Campbell's shaped canvas pieces. Campbell first used a shaped canvas technique in 1973, when it occurred to him that the canvas shape could be an important compositional element. His paintings quickly developed a sculptural quality and broke free of the traditional picture format of a painting.

The City of Bloomington is committed to providing opportunities for Bloomington and area artists to exhibit artwork in City Hall Atrium.
