Bloomington Community Arts Commission Announces Fall 2009 Arts Project Grant Program Recipients:

Bloomington, IN - 11 community organizations and artists will receive a total of $5,000 as part of the Bloomington Community Arts Commission's (BCAC) Arts Project Grant Program, the City of Bloomington announced today.

The following is a list of the 2009 Arts Project Grants recipients for the Fall Cycle with a brief description of their projects:

Boys & Girls Clubs of Bloomington: "ART CORE," visual arts program providing Bloomington's youth access to rich art experiences in an after school program.

Bloomington Hospital, Healing Arts Task Force (HATF): "Art Cart," a roving art cart stocked with art supplies, available to patients on inpatient floors and their visitors.

WonderLab Museum of Science, Health and Technology: "Art and Science of Color," a program in the annual Science of Art series featuring hands on demonstrations by professional artists who explore disciplines related to color.

Lotus Education & Arts Foundation: "Lotus Processionals Community Workshops," a participatory arts activity for the community to create personal masks and flags for display and parading in association with the Lotus World Music & Arts Festival.

Fourth Street Festival of Arts and Craft: "Bloomington Community BEAD Mosaic," a community art project creating a mosaic at the children's art booth at the Fourth Street Festival of Arts and Craft.

"Only Human" Feature Film: produced by Indiana University students and Bloomington community members, the film explores powerful themes and real life experiences.

Musical Arts Youth Orchestra: "MAYO Composition Competition," a competition of original music written for youth orchestra to be premiered at MAYO's spring concert.

Southern Indiana Wind Ensemble, Fall Concert: a concert this November or December 2009 featuring a guest artist.

Bloomington Playwrights Project: "Mini Play Touring Program," students have the opportunity to view five professional actors dramatize plays written by them and their peers as part of the Mini Play competition.

Cardinal Stage Company, "Inherit the Wind": creating supplemental educational materials for general audiences and students about the play.

Monroe County Musicmakers Extension Chorus: providing a venue for singers to advance their professional skills and promote the art of music within the community.

The next cycle of Arts Project Grants is October 1, 2009, for projects beginning between December 1-April 1, 2010. Grants up to $1,000 are available to both individual artists and nonprofit organizations participating in arts activities which align with the mission of the BCAC. Applicants are required to provide a detailed description of the project, timeline, plans for publicity and detailed budget for project activities. Proposed projects are evaluated on their level of community benefit, artistic merit and feasibility.

The BCAC exists to stimulate appreciation of the arts by all citizens of Bloomington and its surrounding area; to encourage, sponsor and develop artistic activities and educational programs; and to foster an environment that promotes the arts and their enjoyment.
