City of Bloomington Announces 2012 Buskirk-Chumley Theater Grant Recipients

Bloomington, IN - The City of Bloomington's Department of Parks and Recreation and BEAD announce that seven community applicants will each receive subsidized use of the Buskirk-Chumley Theater for one day during 2012 through the Buskirk-Chumley Theater Grant Program.

The following is a list of grant recipients with a brief description of each project:

  • Quarryland Men's Chorus: "Winter Concert", one of two community concerts the musical organization has planned for the 2012 season.
  • Center for Sustainable Living: "Trashion Refashion Show", an event that engages artists, designers and models of all ages and walks of life to raise awareness about creating wearable art from discarded clothing, recyclables and non-recyclables.
  • Blooming-Tunes: "Bloomington Songwriters Showcase", which highlights the winners of the Songwriters Showcase songwriting competition.
  • Cardinal Stage: "Big River", a musical adaptation of Mark Twain's Huckleberry Finn, will introduce the American classic to student audiences through special matinee performances.
  • City of Bloomington Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration Commission: the community's largest event celebrating Dr. King's birthday, his contributions and the acceptance of diversity in Bloomington.
  • City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department: "60 Seconds to Win", A special summer event based on the television game show, "Minute to Win It."
  • City of Bloomington Volunteer Network: "Be More Awards", which recognizes exceptional volunteers during a community-wide celebration of volunteerism.
