Bloomington, Ind. - The City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department announced today it has hired Crystal Ritter as a Community Events Coordinator.

The Community Events Coordinator is responsible for planning and carrying out the Department's popular and long-running Performing Arts Series of free concerts in city parks, as well as the A Fair of the Arts fine craft and art fair, and the annual Holiday Market.

Ritter has worked part time for the Parks and Recreation Department since 2009, most recently as a Farmers' Market Specialist and instructor with the Sport Shorties soccer program. She comes to the Department from the Girl Scouts of Central Indiana, where she was the Community Engagement Manager for the southwestern area of the Council. She has also worked with the Boys & Girls Club of Bloomington's Ellettsville Unit, and is a long-time volunteer with the Lotus Arts and Education Foundation. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Telecommunications from Indiana University.

"I am excited to work with the wonderful Community Events staff here in the Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department," Ritter said. "I am also excited to be a part of the City's commitment to valuing the arts, and to continue the tradition of providing accessible arts experiences to our community."

Community Events Manager Leslie Brinson said, "Crystal brings extensive experience in program planning to the Community Events staff, as well as specific performing arts experience. Her volunteer service with the Lotus Festival has provided her with a thorough understanding of concert logistics as well as great connections with the Bloomington community."

Ritter replaces former Community Events Coordinator Greg Jacobs, who left his position to pursue a graduate degree. Ritter began her new job responsibilities on May 8.
