September Exhibit at City Hall to Feature Art by Deborah Klein

BLOOMINGTON, IN - During the month of September, the City of Bloomington Entertainment and Arts District (BEAD) will showcase artwork created by local artist Deborah Klein in the Atrium of City Hall.

Klein's work is created using a technique similar to Victorian-era cut-paper illustration. She uses art papers to create three-dimensional illustrations of plants, animals, and people which are built from layers of paper that have been embossed, cut, folded, and shaped.

Deborah Klein has worked in the arts in both the United States and Australia since the early 1970's, as a jeweler, textile designer and printer, graphic artist and illustrator, project manager and educator. She earned a Bachelor of Art in Design and Marketing from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Australia, followed by coursework towards an MA in Exhibition Design. More examples of Deborah Klein's work can be seen on her website, http://www.deborahkleinpaper.com.

The exhibit will be on display September 1-30. Exhibition hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday, as well as additional evening and weekend hours when City Hall is open for meetings.

The City of Bloomington is committed to providing opportunities for area artists to exhibit artwork in the City Hall Atrium. For more information on the exhibition program, contact Miah Michaelsen, Assistant Economic Development Director for the Arts, at michaelm@bloomington.in.gov or (812) 349-3534.
