Celebrate the Monroe Water Treatment Plant and 50 Years of Reliable Drinking Water

City of Bloomington Utilities is celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Monroe Water Treatment Plant! With pumping initiated on September 9, 1967, MWTP is where Lake Monroe water becomes the drinking water for the 145,000 residents of Bloomington, IU, Monroe County, and beyond. It's the water that buoys Bloomington's industry, flows through our local food and drink establishments, irrigates produce, quenches fires, and washes hands at medical facilities. Bloomington would not be the city it is today without the smart decisions made decades ago to secure a reliable source of water.

CBU would like you to join our festivities on Saturday SEPTEMBER 16TH at the Bloomington Farmer’s Market, 9am to 1pm. The celebration will be held at the plaza in front of the Showers Building at 401 N. Morton St. In case of inclement weather, we will move indoors to the City Hall atrium. We plan to have games, informational booths, science experiments, cool trucks, creek critters, and of course, free water!
