Portions of the B-Line to Close Periodically Wednesday for Vegetation Management

Bloomington, Ind. - Three different portions of the B-Line Trail will be temporarily closed Wednesday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. for chemical applications for vegetation control. Detours will be in place at all three locations.

According to city landscaper Joanna Sparks, staff from Eco Logic LLC will apply herbicide to control invasive plants along three sections of the B-Line: Between Eighth Street and Rogers Street, and two sections between Second Street and the Third Street bridge. The closures will not occur simultaneously.

Sparks said Eco Logic will use four different species-specific herbicides to remove invasive Japanese knotweed, Canada thistle, Chinese maiden grass, creeping lilyturf, and purple wintercreeper to create space for native pollinator gardens.

The trail segments will be closed and temporarily detoured during application, and will remain closed until the chemical dries completely. Once the chemical is dry, the area is safe for humans and pets to enter.

Eco Logic and Bloomington Parks and Recreation staff will conform to all protocols outlined in the Department’s Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Plan.

Application of the pesticide is weather dependent. If weather conditions are not favorable for a safe and effective treatment, the application will be postponed.
