City of Bloomington Utilities Announces 2017 Fire Hydrant Maintenance Program

The City of Bloomington Utilities will conduct its 2017 fire hydrant maintenance program starting Monday, September 25.  Each week until further notice, crew members from M.E. Simpson will flow and perform necessary maintenance on fire hydrants in selected areas of Bloomington. During the week of September 25 through September 29, this will occur inside the area bordered by the roads listed below:

  • North Boundary: East Third Street

  • South Boundary: East Hillside Drive

  • East Boundary: East Donington Drive

  • West Boundary: South Lincoln Street

Signage will be displayed in the affected areas on the day the fire hydrant maintenance is taking place.

The weekly fire hydrant maintenance schedule is subject to change if a day's work is not completed as scheduled, or due to inclement weather.

Customers may experience fluctuations in pressure and/or discoloration of their water during hydrant flowing.  A customer experiencing discolored water should run their cold water tap until it clears, and is advised to postpone washing clothes and limit their use of hot water until the cold water clears.
