HAND’s 2018 Schedule for Home Buyers Club Classes

Bloomington, Ind. – The City of Bloomington’s Department of Housing and Neighborhood Development (HAND) will host four Home Buyers Club classes in 2018. The popular two-part class helps potential first-time home buyers understand and overcome the obstacles involved in realizing the goal of homeownership. Presenters will include HAND’s HUD-certified housing counselor and local real estate industry professionals.   

Covered topics will include:

• Is homeownership the right option for you?

• Developing a household budget and home-buying action plan

• Developing a savings plan, credit issues and credit repair

• Working with a realtor and how to locate the right home for you

• The importance of home inspections and how to value a home

• Learning about mortgages and finding the right one for you

• Protecting your investment through comprehensive home maintenance

• Accessing community and neighborhood resources

Each class includes two Saturday sessions, and Home Buyers Club participants will need to attend both sessions to complete the class.  Dates for the 2018 Home Buyers Club classes and registration periods are listed below:

1. January 20th and 27th (registration will open December 4, 2017)

2. February 17th and 24th (registration will open January 15, 2018)

3. April 7th and 14th (registration will open March 5, 2018)

4. September 15th and 22nd (registration will open August 6, 2018)

Each class meets from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for the first Saturday session and from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for the second Saturday session.
 

Income-eligible participants who complete the classes can apply for up to $5,000 of down payment and closing cost assistance from HAND. For more information about the down payment and closing cost assistance, visit bloomington.in.gov/housing/home-buyers-club.

The Home Buyers Club is open to all in the community at no cost. However, class size is limited and pre-registration is required.
