City of Bloomington to Host Kick-off for the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) Update

Bloomington, Ind. – The City of Bloomington’s Planning and Transportation Department is kicking off the process of updating the City’s Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) with a public meeting at the Downtown Transit Center (301 S. Walnut) on Tuesday, February 6 at 6:00 p.m. Parking near the station is available on-street as well as in the Fourth Street garage. The UDO is the primary source of land use regulations for the City of Bloomington, including both zoning and subdivision control ordinances. The updated UDO is expected to complement the soon-to-be-completed Bloomington Comprehensive Plan.

“This is the first comprehensive update of the Unified Development Ordinance since 2007,” said Mayor John Hamilton. “This much-anticipated update will codify the direction set forth in the new Comprehensive Plan. Bloomington cares deeply about its built environment and land use plans, so this meeting and other upcoming opportunities for input will allow the public to help shape this document and the future of the city.”

At the meeting, members of the public will have the opportunity to talk with the consultant team and City staff who will coordinate the project. More input will be sought and collected through a new website, social media, and future public presentations. Documents and draft ordinance language will be available for public review and comment on the web at bloomington.in.gov/udo/update, following the February 6 meeting.
