Section of Bloomington Rail Trail Temporarily Closed for Repairs

Bloomington, Ind. — The City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department has temporarily closed the Bloomington Rail Trail between Rogers Street and That Road to repair damage from last week's flooding.

According to Parks and Recreation Operations Superintendent Mark Marotz, a six-person crew worked on the section of the Bloomington Rail Trail most of the day Tuesday, using a compact utility loader with a bucket to backfill the washed-out section of trail. By 10 a.m.Wednesday, Parks and Recreation crews had brought in two one-ton truckloads of #53 driveway stone to lay over the backfill, and pack down to make the trail usable once again. Additional loads of stone are on order to complete the trail repair.

Marotz said the Parks and Recreation Department hopes to have the section of the Rail Trail repaired, and to re-open the trail to public, by Friday.
