Staff Assistant Community Events Arts Programs

Duties

Assist with the implementation of special events, art fairs, concerts, outdoor movies, and the use of facilities/park sites under the general direction of a full-time staff member. Supervise program/event operations while interpreting and enforcing policies for the Parks and Recreation Department. Foster good public relations. Perform other duties as assigned. 

Maintain the overall function of the Willie Streeter, Rev. Ernest D. Butler Park, and Switchyard Park Community Gardens and assist with related educational programming.

  • Monitor and maintain records for events and programs.
  • Maintain positive relations with the public at events. Public speaking is required.
  • Promptly and clearly communicate with artists and performers in-person, by email and by phone.
  • Assist in the planning of programs and events.
  • Assist with creating social media content and marketing materials.
  • Take initiative in developing and coordinating projects with other Community Events staff.
  • Report regularly to the Community Events Program Coordinator for the Arts.

Skills and Knowledge

The incumbent should possess some working knowledge of event and/or program implementation. The incumbent must have strong communication skills. Incumbent must possess strong customer service skills. Experience working with sound equipment is preferred. Ability to work independently and make quick decisions.

Requirements

  • Valid Indiana driver's license
  • Current Adult, Child and Infant CPR and First Aid certifications or ability to obtain.

Physical Effort

Moderate to strenuous physical effort is exerted by the employee in the field. Ability and willingness to work in hot and cold weather and all safe weather conditions are important.  Employees may occasionally move materials weighing in excess of 50 pounds.

Working Conditions

Employee primarily performs duties outdoors in parks in varying weather conditions. Employee must also be willing to spend time in an office environment communicating with performers, artists, and the public.

Hours

March-November, approximately 10-20 hours per week. Hours vary with season and program offerings. Some evenings and weekends required. Relatively flexible schedule.

Salary

Starting at $18.40 per hour
