Position Description

Incumbent is self-directed and receives general supervision from the Sanitation & Grounds Working Foreperson. Most often is self-directed. Duties are performed according to an established schedule, and are reviewed to ensure standards for cleanliness and sanitation are met. Incumbent performs a wide variety of duties and tasks related to the upkeep, sanitation and general maintenance of city park grounds, buildings, restrooms, equipment, shelters and rental facilities. Incumbent performs all tasks necessary to maintain high standards for cleanliness and sanitation. Specific duties:

Operates motorized power washer on daily basis and/or as directed by supervisor.
Cleans shelter houses, grills, and performs custodial tasks necessary to maintain cleanliness and sanitation of park facilities, equipment, parking lots, and athletic courts.
Removes graffiti using manual and mechanical methods.
Makes minor plumbing repairs as needed.
Removal of litter and other debris from assigned areas as directed.
Other duties as assigned.

Training/Special Skills

Working knowledge and skill in the operation of custodial tools and equipment.
Possess or obtain current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications within 30 days of hire.
Ability to follow mixing directions and to follow chemical application of cleaning solutions.
Working knowledge of mechanics and ability to perform inspections on vehicles and equipment.
Must be self-motivated, and have the ability to interact and work well with the public and other employees.
Must be reliable, punctual, have the ability to follow oral and written direction and be capable of performing physically demanding work.
Valid driver’s license. Good driving record.

Physical Effort/Working Conditions

Must be in good physical condition. Moderate to strenuous physical effort is exerted by the employee in the setup and operation of equipment; including frequent bending, stooping, and the movement of extremities to operate equipment and perform work tasks. Moderate to strenuous physical effort is frequently required for extended periods of time in the lifting, loading, and transporting of supplies and materials. Employee must be physically capable of lifting weights in excess of 50 pounds. Employee performs duties in and out of doors, in varying weather conditions, and is periodically exposed to work sites with traffic, noise, dust, and vehicle and equipment fumes. Safety precautions used at all times to avoid injury.

Hours

8 hours per day, 7:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m. Some weekends may be required. 40–hour work week, except during periods of inclement weather. Employees under age 18 are subject to restrictions on both hours and prohibited occupations.

Season

March 16–November 22. Term of employment not to exceed nine months.

Salary

$18.40–$18.60 per hour
