Latino Leader Award

The Latino Leader Award recognizes a Latino individual who has made significant contributions to the Bloomington and/or Monroe County community.

Through their contributions, nominees have been one or more of the following: (1) influential role model, (2) advocate for services and the rights for Latinos, and (3) have shown continuous direct and effective involvement in the Latino community. This award seeks to recognize individuals in the following key areas:

  • Leadership- Through exemplary leadership, has contributed towards a specific goal or objective that has benefited the Latino community and/or has been a role model in their profession/work.
  • Initiative- Continually responds to new and changing needs of the community and/or has developed new and innovative programs within his/her professional field.
  • Advocacy- Campaigns for issues that promote the inclusion and well-being of the Latino community and/or has developed innovative programs within his/her field
  • Dedication- Works on issues and seeks solutions to problems based on the needs of the professional and/or Latino community, not based on his/her own self-interests.

Outstanding Latino High School Student Award

The Outstanding Latino High School Student Award recognizes a Latino/Hispanic high school student of any MCCSC, RBB, or alternative high school.

Recognize a Latino/Hispanic high school student of any MCCSC, RBB, or alternative high school. The award is given to a student who has stood out in school through an outstanding class project, a school initiative, outstanding performance on a sports team, artistic group (theater, choir, dance) or as a leader of a student club. All nominees must be entering seniors in the fall 2018 semester. The Commission is especially interested in students who have been one or more of the following:

  • A school representative in a local, regional or national event.
  • An advocate for services that benefit the high school and/or Bloomington community
  • A leader for initiatives that foster team work, community service, protection of the environment, or fundraising for social causes
  • A participant in campaigns to avoid and eradicate racism, sexism, bullying in school, drugs/alcohol abuse and to raise awareness about pregnancy and sexual diseases in teenagers
  • A distinguished student with excellent grades, active participation in school activities, and/or dedicated research or remarkable presentations in class about different topics.

Outstanding Latino Community Advocate

The Latino Community Advocate award recognizes an agency/organization that has made significant contributions to the Bloomington and/or Monroe County community.

Through their contributions, nominees have been an influential role model, advocate for services and the rights for Latinos, and have shown continuous direct and effective involvement in the Latino community. This award seeks to recognize individuals in the following key areas:

  • Leadership- Through exemplary leadership, has contributed towards a specific goal or objective that has benefited the Latino community and/or has been a role model in their profession/work.
  • Initiative- Continually responds to new and changing needs of the community
  • Advocacy- Campaigns for issues that promote the inclusion and well-being of the Latino community.
  • Dedication- Works on issues and seeks solutions to problems based on the needs of the professional and/or Latino community, not based on its own self interests.

Outstanding Business Award 

The Outstanding Business Award recognizes an agency/organization that has made significant contributions to the Bloomington and/or Monroe County community.

Through their contributions, nominees have been an influential role model, advocate for services and the rights for Latinos, and have shown continuous direct and effective involvement in the Latino community. This award seeks to recognize organizations in the following key areas:

  • Leadership- Through exemplary leadership, has contributed towards a specific goal or objective that has benefited the Latino community and/or has been a role model in their profession/work.
  • Initiative- Continually responds to new and changing needs of the community
  • Advocacy- Campaigns for issues that promote the inclusion and well-being of the Latino community.
  • Dedication- Works on issues and seeks solutions to problems based on the needs of the professional and/or Latino community, not based on its own self interests.

Organization/Agency Award

The Organization/Agency award recognizes an agency/organization that has made significant contributions to the Bloomington and/or Monroe County community.

Through their contributions, nominees have been an influential role model, advocate for services and the rights for Latinos, and have shown continuous direct and effective involvement in the Latino community. This award seeks to recognize organizations in the following key areas:

  • Leadership- Through exemplary leadership, has contributed towards a specific goal or objective that has benefited the Latino community and/or has been a role model in their profession/work.
  • Initiative- Continually responds to new and changing needs of the community
  • Advocacy- Campaigns for issues that promote the inclusion and well-being of the Latino community.
  • Dedication- Works on issues and seeks solutions to problems based on the needs of the professional and/or Latino community, not based on its own self interests.
