Bloomington's Living Wage Ordinance, which went into effect on January 1, 2006, requires covered employers to pay covered employees a living wage: the amount that the City of Bloomington believes is sufficient for a working family to meet basic needs in housing, child care, food, clothing, household items, transportation, health care and taxes. (These requirements exclude all Public Works projects.)
In 2024 the living wage rate is $15.75 an hour, of which up to $2.36 (15%) may be in the form of health insurance the covered employer makes available to the covered employee. In 2025, it will be $16.22 an hour, of which $2.43 may be in the form of health insurance offered to the covered employee.
The wage is adjusted annually for inflation based on the Consumer Price Index for all urban areas.
