It’s a beautiful, sunny June day. Several individuals and about 30 campers with 4 counselors are eagerly awaiting the Bryan Park pool to open at 11 am. 11:05 am and the door is still shut, “POOL CLOSED.” Someone calls the pool hotline. Pool is closed till NOON, because it is 63 degrees out. The cooler morning temp did not discourage 35 people at 11 am - and also then had to reschedule their morning plans because of the unexpected delayed opening. Was this delayed closure truly necessary??

Does the City of Bloomington/Parks and Rec have a lifeguard:patron ratio that they implement? As of 1:30 pm, there are about 30 people in the main pool (not including the deep end) and only one lifeguard on duty. This lifeguard was seated in an oversight chair on the south side of the pool. When I asked the four off-duty lifeguards about the ratio, one told me that only a single lifeguard was sufficient for the whole pool for the number of patrons. He also indicated that they did not need to close off the west end of the pool to reduce the scan area for the lone lifeguard. However, after that, he did ask the seated lifeguard to go down to ground level to scan the pool.

What are the safety protocols for lifeguards on duty? There are two lifeguards on duty for the main pool at 2:30 pm, but the elevated chairs designed for lifeguards to easily scan the pool are empty. Instead, both lifeguards are seated together, chatting on the staff bench. There are easily 60+ people at the Bryan Park Pool now and plenty of small children. From Reddit Bloomington: Fiber cables damaging sewer lines We live right next to Bryan Park. About a week ago our toilet backed up, and after multiple visits from our (very honest and reasonable) plumber, we discovered that the city's fiber optic internet contractor had carelessly run an optic cable directly through our sewer line. This caused a ton of debris to get into our drain pipe and completely clog the pipe, necessitating a $10k repair. I called the city and apparently, this is happening to people all over town. (The person in the utilities office said I was the third person to call today with this exact problem, and our plumber said that this contractor got thrown out of Carmel for damaging so many sewer lines).

There is a syringe along the road about half way between 6th and 7th on Oak street. It is right across the street from the very large sycamore tree on the west side.

All the storm water runoff from the White Oak Cemetery basin, during very hard rains, cannot be handled by the 4-storm drains near the intersection of 7th and Oak Streets. The excess is diverted through the gravel parking of our neighbor at 1025 W 7th, washing the gravel onto the street. The storm water then turns and washes through the alley between 6th & 7th Streets. It then goes through our carport and yard washing our mulch away in places. Oak street was paved in the past and is higher than the storm drain at 7th and Oak so any excess water has do go through the gravel parking instead of down the street. I would be happy to meet someone to look at this problem. Thanks.
