I just received a call from Louisa Purcell who lives on Kirkwood Ave. She was very distraught because she saw someone in a white city truck watering "little" trees on Kirkwood. She feels that we should be conserving water because if we don't in these dry conditions we will have a water emergency! She just wanted to pass along that complaint!
Harold Evans e-mailed the department: this morning I read about one of your program offers in our local newspaper. Since I'm interested in water distribution in our city, I thought this tour of the many historical water sources in Bloomington could be worthwhile. The article directs us to sign up for this tour at our city website. There is no mention anywhere on that site about this particular event and many attempts to search for it were fruitless. I then contacted someone in your department by phone who didn't know anything about the event either. It seems to me that the signup process for events like this is so difficult that I really don't see how a sufficient number of people would ever be able to register in order to make the tour happen. If this is how you run your activity offers, I can see why you might look good to the city managers, but in fact, not be doing anything worthwhile at all. The way you are running your department, Mr. Renneisen, is a joke. It looks like this is another example of how our tax money is wasted on worthless politicians. Have a good and QUIET day. Dear City of Bloomington Staff, Thank you for your excellent service! Bloomington is very well-maintained and I feel very much at home here. I am a regular user of the Winslow Woods Park at 2120 S. Highland Ave. Just outside the tennis courts, there is a water fountain. I was wondering, is there a way you could install a hydration station there? They have them at my campus (Indiana University) and they provide clean, filtered water to students. If a hydration station is impractical, could a Brita Hydration System (http://www.britahydrationstation.com/) be an alternative? I drink regularly from the fountain and would very much appreciate a source of clean, filtered water there. Thank you very much, Olivia Lograsso
I live on the east side of town and frequently drive through the Hillside Drive roundabout. There is an irrigation system around the roundabout which seems like a terrible waste of money and water by the city. This is particularly true when the sprinklers are working despite the ample rain of the last few months. Also, if you drive through the roundabout around 8pm you will notice that the sprinklers in the north east corner of the roundabout spray out over the traffic lane which is an additional waste of water all to keep a little bit of grass green. I think the city should have landscaped this and all other roundabouts using native and drought tolerant plants and little if any grass so that money and water are not wasted keeping the area green.
Recv'd request to check out the existing water service at 910 N Madison St. Property owner, Chris Sims, explained that the road was raised awhile back and now the meter sets much lower than the current street elevation. He plans to build a new 2-bdrm home soon on this lot and wants the meter raised to meet the elevation of the new home & the street. He requests that CBU evaluate his request and call him back at 812-327-6290 to advise him whether work needs to be completed before he begins to bring in additional fill for the lot. I also mentioned to him that he will need to complete updated new service forms to ensure that the existing service will be sufficient for the new home. While CBU is on-site, please verify the status of the existing service...will it need to be updated/changed out, or is it adequate for the new home going in?

There is a burst pipe over spot 316 in the 4th St parking garage. Also, when I was parked in this spot yesterday I came out of work at 5:00 to find water pouring onto my windshield from this pipe. Note that this water was not coming from the break in the pipe (shown in the photo above), but from a location directly above where a Prius-sized car's windshield would be.
Our next door neighbor (to the west) have a giant pile of garbage and a separate pile of kitty litter in his back yard. Both piles are several feet tall and several feet wide. You can smell the piles around the neighborhood. They are also hazardous since they are right next to an open water drainage ditch. I know that these same people have been reported to the city several times before about the same thing (by the previous owners). What can be done to address this issue?
Water is hazardous! Apparently a young boy drown in one of the ponds in Wylie Farm subdivision, i was told it was this one. I fell in this one myself, there is an extremely slippery plastic sheet that covers the entire bottom of the pond, up to the edge of the water. If the water is high you don't see it, if its low it's exposed on the edges. When it was low i went to the edge to take a picture of the water. I fell in by slipping the instant my foot hit the plastic sheet, all the way up to my shoulders and i fell down 3 more times trying to stand up. I ended up having to get on my hands and knees to crawl out in order to get enough friction on the plastic to move and pull myself up by grabbing handfuls of the grass growing on the shore! A small kid would almost certainly drown there. A very insufficient "fence" made of 3 almost invisible plastic wires had been put around one of the ponds. A much, much better fence needs to be put around all of them, or eventually another kid will drown.
