Drainage or Runoff

245 W Patterson Dr, Bloomington, IN 47403, USA

Case Date:
7/22/2020

On-going issue. Sediment buildup in open ditch south of storm sewer discharge pipe is impeding/stopping flow of storm water runoff in open ditch further downstream from where pipe daylights. Attached site plan clearly shows the pipe is not daylighting on our property as was concluded by CBU supervisor on previous ticket #169150. The centerline of the open ditch is approximately 15' off of our building wall and the site plan shows the property line at 11.08' from our building wall. The rainwater backup caused from the sediment buildup is back flowing into our drive/parking lot during rain events. I have other photos from several rain events that I can forward through email to provide evidence of the issue. If possible we'd like to meet a CBU supervisor on-site at their earliest convenience to discuss the issue.

South of me there is a a large building about 40 feet long that doesn't have gutters it runs down across the road on neighbors which in turn runs toward my house. II have pictures to send in the mail which I wi8ll need to send you because I don't know how to send them in the mail. I have spent 400.00 to put a ridge to keep from running in my yard. I also had a drain dug in my drive about 4 feet from the fence running about 2 foot deep running toward the drain in the back of my house that cost me 650.00. I will write on the back of the picture that will explain what they are for when I send them thank you and I will write on the back . Also in front of garage my small car is on ramps so the water will not get my brake shoes wet and i have to not park my other car about7 feet from the garage so i can;t park a car behind my car. Thank you for taking the time to read John Arthur

There are no sewer drains for rain water. It all pools around my yard every time it rains. The road is worn down from trucks so the water just stays there for days eating away at my yard. I even see there's a line item on my water bill where I pay for run off water...why am I paying for it to just flood my yard? I've written about this once before because I also think a curb around my property would also help the problem.

I am a homeowner with storm drainage infrastructure running alongside and underneath my yard. The majority of the Cascade Neighborhood drains though here and the conduit along Skyline is crumbling and heavily damaged. This needs to be repaired in order to accommodate the volume of water now common in our storms. Further, I am concerned that the underground portion is compromised. I see several sinkholes in my yard from subsidence. There are actually two conduits running though - one from alongside my yard, and another that runs from across the street in my neighbors yard. Additionally, there was a portion of erosion along my back fenceline that had eroded around a city sewer access point. Since the city came to fill this, I have had flooding in my garage - correlated to this directly. I have owned my home for over 10 years and am noticing the impacts of hydrostatic pressure in my basement - am issue I’ve never had before. I am concerned that the many city lines that run though my yard are compromised- leading to this problem. I would greatly appreciate meeting with a utilities manager to discuss these issues and have a scope of these lines performed.

Wet bottom retention pond damaged by beavers, dam eroded and may fail. Water pipe directed to the creek falls short of spilling into the creek by 15 feet and is eroding the bank and exposing 50% of fine-tree roots near the bank.

The northwest corner of our yard has been inundated with water for the past several weeks. There is standing water as well as super-saturated ground. The water appears to originate from the utility strip between properties toward Clover. This does not appear to be related to rain or storm events. The water drains to the south, but the amount present doesn't lessen. This makes us think there is a leak in either a water main or a storm drain or another source. The saturation leads to worries about the mature trees along the property line coming over. The ground is boggy and one cannot walk or mow in this area. Your attention to this will be appreciated.

Hello, I reported water coming into our yard before.(uReport Case #177856) Your answer was that it was probably coming from neighbor's pool. That pool is to the southwest and they do indeed drain it into the yard, but it is not the source of water coming from uphill, close to properties on Clover on the northwest side of the yard. The water comes from somewhere close to 400 Clover Lane. As the property line and utility easement are wooded and covered with vegetation it is difficult to tell where the water originates, but it is clearly outside of our yard. I would be glad to discuss this and my concerns with you: 812-955-8220; or to meet with someone and show them where and what the problem is. Thanks, Ginny Richey

The swale to the west side of our home overfilled as storm water was backed up at the street drains which then flooded the window well to our basement on June 18-19. Although our yard is regularly flooded during heavy storms, the west swale was designed and dug by the City to carry excess water to the street. We believe this swale needs to be dug deeper and lined with rock to stop erosion from occurring to prevent future flooding of our basement. Please send an engineer to evaluate. This problem has been reported several times.

Case Date:

Dear Madam/Sir, We are writing to report an ongoing and hazardous issue concerning the creek that runs behind our properties (3020 S Stratford Dr and 1920 E Wexlex Rd). After moderate to heavy rainfall, the creek's bank becomes overwhelmed by the increased water flow, resulting in flooding of our yards and water surrounding the residence at 3020 Stratford Dr. Our observations indicate that this flooding is primarily caused by erosion along the creek's eastern basin, located on public land 'above' and 'behind' our properties. The severity of the flooding is evident as approximately 2-3 inches of water accumulates around the house, enters the crawl space, and covers utility equipment such as the electric manhole and bollards. The water takes several hours to recede, during which time the electric manhole remains submerged. We have already notified Duke Energy about this issue, given its potential electrical hazards. As new tenants, we have identified this critical problem that was somehow overlooked by previous residents. While we can only attach a single image to this message and all incidents have taken place at night since our move, we are ready and willing to assist your team in identifying the eroded section of the creek bank, provide on-site explanations and further images if needed. We respectfully request your guidance on addressing this matter and your assistance in coordinating with Duke Energy, if required, to urgently resolve this situation. In case you are unable to reach us at 765-508-9679, please contact our property manager, Ms. Janet Jin (812-325-9093, jcornerstone.mgt@gmail.com), as we may be overseas. Thank you for your immediate attention to this pressing concern. Sincerely, Gergo Szanda
